A gang of teenagers were beating up a young girl, she wore glasses and held on to a magic book as they kicked and hit her. Not once did she try to defend herself as the attacks kept coming, she screamed in agony, but people walked passed the scene as if blind and deaf to it.
"They do exist!"
She cried out, still clinging to the book as she collapsed, watching the teenagers high-five each other and walk away. Why wouldn't anyone believe her, magic was real, dragons were real, vampires, elves, they all were real.
Blood ran down her forehead, running into her sky blue eyes, her glasses were cracked and her short blond hair was dripping with sweat and blood. She carefully placed the magic book on the ground and pulled her legs close, it hurt too much to stand, she felt like sitting there until the earth would swallow her.
As always people just gave her dirty glances as she sat on the ground shivering, no one cared, they all were blind, blind to magic, blind to each other. She shivered as the sun started to set and pushed herself up, she felt dizzy and exhausted, but she had to move, nights were dangerous and she had to get back to the orphanage.
A man walked past her, he looked like a Goth and wore sunglasses, but she felt it, his true magical aura and backed away. A vampire, she just got passed by a vampire and he looked back as he smelt her fear and blood.
"What are you looking at?"
"Nothing...nothing sir vampire sir..."
His hand hit her face before she could even blink, his position was that of a fighter and she stumbled back tears filling her eyes. He looked down on her and hissed annoyed, he was hiding, trying so hard to hide his aura.
"Vampires do not exist!"
"I am sorry sir..."
She watched him leave her alone, shaking in fear, was she insane, she had always seen them, always seen the magic, their true shapes and now after 17 years of this torment all those beings turned against her. Magic did exist she was sure, but why did even the magical deny it, was it such a crime to believe.
She stumbled through the streets, she cried and felt her energy drain. She did not have the courage to return to the orphanage, she was 20 anyway, she was lucky they allowed her to sleep there still. She went to the hill and slid down on top of it, taking out a flash light she started reading her book, blood dripping on it, she was losing blood still, slowly...as if her body fought the blood.
"I … I am not insane...magic exists."
"How can you be so sure about it?"
A soft voice sounded behind her, she looked around, at first glance it was a young man, twenty five years old at most, but when she looked better she saw it, behind his shape, an enormous black dragon with bright golden eyes. Tears filled her eyes again and she looked at him.
"I...I want to see...I want to feel...what is real...magic is real..."
"Don't you see? Do you not see me...do you not feel the heat, the pressure?"
"I do...I always do..."
She was losing so much blood, her life was fading. She stared at the dragon, she couldn't even see the human disguise any more, his head lowered towards her and she wrapped her arms around it. She could feel it, she could see it, she could smell it, so real, so very real. She pressed her lips against it and slid down on the ground, collapsing with a happy smile.
